Boxing day

In Japan, yesterday is Boxing Day.
It’s not the day after Christmas.
On 19/5/1952, it was the day that Yoshio Shirai became the first boxing world champion in Japan.

I heard the word Boxing Day for the first time on Elvis Costello’s TKO song, but I didn’t even know it was a holiday that originated from the first martyr.

From my own experience, the boxing gym is a typical place for closed spaces, crowds, and close contacts that are said to be avoided in anti-corona virus measures these days.

I think that only those who work hard and get trained can win the ring.
However, the inter-high school tournament, which is the goal of young high school boxers, has also been cancelled.
I remember when I was in high school. The joy of winning and the tears of losing.

I feel sorry for them, even though it is unavoidable when I think that they will not be given the opportunity.
I can’t find the usual words to say to them.
A few years later, I just pray for the athletes who experienced the pain of canceling the tournament to laugh and speak.

See you soon.
