NICK LOWE’s first solo concert in Japan, not a special guest, was on 19/11/1987 @ Ota City Hall.
I went alone this day, but the fun won and the distant venue didn’t bother me.
It was 32 years ago, but I’m happy that there are moments that I can remember clearly.
Austin de Lone from the band Eggs Over Easy, the originator of PUBROCK in the UK, gave a guest appearance.
Elvis Costello sang with NICK in a surprise encore.
I can’t forget the surprised face of NICK when he came out to the chorus of the encore that never stopped even when the lights of the venue turned on.
The last song was BO BO SKEDIDDLE, which I’m listening to right now.
The memories of this concert are the best of the many concerts I have seen.
YUSAKU MATSUMURA, the founding member of rockin’on magazine, is the only writer I keep checking.
In this month’s issue of rockin’on, he writes an article introducing the new four-track album of NICK LOWE.
“I’m deeply moved because I’m watching him from his first landing in Japan.”
For me too, I feel like telling my dear Mr. Matsumura.
See you soon.
