I got to know him because he was on Tom Waits’ Rain Dogs and Elvis Costello’s Spike, which he loved.
“What kind of person is this guitarist that makes this strange sound?”
I bought several CDs under the name of solo, including “Rootless Cosmopolitans” released in 1990, but it was difficult for me to listen to.
I think I went to this live because the two albums that were released under the group name Y Los Cubanos Postizos had a Cuban flavor and were easy to listen to.
This was my first live experience in the 21st century.
I’m listening to the CD now, but his guitar is still the same.
In 2014, I participated in FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL for the first time.
To be honest, it was hard for me, who is 50, to physically participate in the three-day festival outdoors in the midsummer.
After sweating hard at my favorite artist’s live, I met up with my friends to relax and watch other bands.
I heard a strange and familiar guitar, so I told a friend, “It looks like Marc Ribot.”
A friend laughed and told me “Because it’s Marc Ribot.”
It was a performance of THE YOUNG PHILADELPHIANS that he led, but I had not checked it in advance.
I realized again that his guitar is unique.
See you soon.
