Light the torch of hope in the wilderness

Yesterday, my friend and I watched a documentary film about the late Dr. Tetsu Nakamura.
I stopped updating this blog due to my own poor English skills, but this documentary movie gave me such an impression that I could not care about that.
I had to introduce this movie and Dr. Tetsu Nakamura’s way of life.

When did I first learn of Dr. Tetsu Nakamura?
I think it was so long ago that I can’t remember for sure.
I remember playing a song praising Peshawar on the day when the Caravan band from Thailand made a guest appearance at a performance by singer Masato Tomobe.
I think I learned about the activities of the Peshawar-kai at the concert venue at that time, so I think it was 1985, but I’m not sure.

Dr. Tetsu Nakamura helped people in need without remuneration.
His work began with his medical examinations as a doctor, and progressed to flood control civil engineering work, which was not his main business.
He stopped gripping the stethoscope, removed his lab coat, changed into his work clothes, and operated the excavator himself.
He overcame repeated difficulties and overcame them without giving up.

Even when his own younger son was battling a tumor, he made it a priority to state his opinion in the Japanese Diet that the Afghan people should avoid suffering.
When his second son died, he was reported to have prayed and vowed to have him watch over his own life.
With tears in my eyes, I wondered why he was so devoted to others.

The fact that he was shot dead was only a factual description in the subtitles.
When I heard the news, I remember being furious and wondering why he had to be treated so foolishly and cruelly.
However, such feelings may be the teachings of the filmmakers that such feelings do not correspond to Dr. Tetsu Nakamura’s convictions.

If you read this poorly written English, I would like you to know about Dr. Tetsu Nakamura.
And if you can, please watch this movie.
Sincerely, please.

See you soon.

  1. 中村哲医師、初めて知りました。興味深い映画ですね。献身的に人々を助けるも報われない結末が残念でなりません。しかしポレポレ東中野の映画館のこじんまりとした雰囲気が最高ですね。
